Frederick the Great

Frederick the Great (1712-1786), King of Prussia, modernized his state through military conquest, administrative reform, and patronage of Enlightenment arts. He transformed Prussia into a major European power, notably winning the Seven Years' War, and earned his title as a "philosopher king.
