Balboa founded the settlement of Santa Mar

Balboa led an expedition across the Isthmus of Panama and became the first European to see the Pacific Ocean from the Americas. He claimed the ocean and all its shores for Spain, naming it the South Sea. The journey took 18 days through dense jungle.
