Guillermo Endara, running as the candidate of the opposition coalition ADOC, won the Panamanian presidential election against Manuel Noriega's candidate. The election was marred by fraud and violence, and the results were subsequently annulled by Noriega's regime.
Following the U.S. invasion of Panama in December 1989, Endara was sworn in as President at a U.S. military base. His presidency was initially seen as legitimate by the international community, but he faced challenges of rebuilding the country after the invasion.
Endara served as President from 1989 to 1994. His administration focused on economic recovery, dismantling Noriega's military apparatus, and strengthening democratic institutions. He faced criticism for corruption and slow progress, but oversaw the transition to a civilian government.
Napoleon Bonaparte, with support from his brother Lucien and key political figures, overthrew the Directory in a bloodless coup. He established the Consulate with himself as First Consul, effectively becoming the ruler of France. This event ended the French Revolution's most unstable period.
Napoleon enacted the Civil Code of the French, known as the Napoleonic Code, a comprehensive set of laws that replaced the fragmented feudal legal systems. The code established legal equality, protected property rights, and secularized law. It became the basis for legal systems in many European and world countries.

Each figure is scored on 6 dimensions (0—100 scale) based on structured historical data: Military (10%), Political (20%), Influence (20%), Legacy (20%), Leadership (15%), Strategy (15%). The weighted total produces the final ranking.
Scores are computed from structured sub-indicators in the database. Scale factors adjust for era (Ancient ×0.85, Modern ×1.0) and civilization size (Eastern ×1.05, Other ×0.80) to account for differences in population and military scale.
Comparisons are limited to 2—3 figures to ensure readability and statistical meaningfulness.
±5 points per dimension — Sub-scores are derived from historical records with inherent uncertainty. Two figures within 5 points on a dimension should be considered roughly equivalent in that area.
±3 points overall — The weighted combination of 6 dimensions produces a total score with approximately ±3 points of uncertainty. Differences of less than 3 points are not statistically significant— the figures are effectively tied.
You’re comparing a man who lost an empire to a man who lost a parking spot. Napoleon commanded half a million men at his peak; Endara commanded maybe a few dozen bodyguards. The Emperor rewrote the civil code still used in much of the world; Endara’s main legacy is being the guy between Noriega and Pérez Balladares—the political equivalent of a placeholder page. Even in defeat, Napoleon’s fall was operatic; Endara’s whole career is a footnote with a footnote.
Plutarchian comparisons require parallel lives of consequence, not mere chronology. Napoleon created modern meritocracy from revolution’s chaos; Endara was the acceptable face of foreign occupation. One man’s ambition ended at St. Helena after defining an age; the other’s ended quietly at home, remembered only by trivia enthusiasts. Even the oaths are incomparable: Napoleon crowned himself Emperor before God and army; Endara swore on a military base before a US general. The gulf isn’t tactical—i
其实从“历史玩笑”角度来看,这俩人还真有共同点:都喜欢在敌军面前
Endara’s presidency was a colonial fig leaf, nothing more. Bonaparte reshaped Europe’s laws, currency, and borders. Endara couldn’t even control his own borders—Manuel Noriega’s forces still roamed for days after the U.S. invasion. Napoleon’s Continental System altered the course of European trade; Endara’s biggest achievement was not getting killed before handing power back to a guy who’d shoot you for a bad traffic stop. Scale matters. This comparison devalues Napoleon’s genius.
